With the imminent destruction of Krypton, their home planet, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and his wife seek to preserve their race by sending their infant son to Earth. The child's spacecraft lands at the farm of Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha (Diane Lane) Kent, who name him Clark and raise him as their own son. This is one of those movies where you wish it wasn't so cringe. Back when every damn movie was doing building smashy smashy with no consequence and characters that are interacting with each other for some reason. It's not a 'fun' film.

The movie looks impressive, but it feels like it focuses way more on loud action and destruction than on telling a strong story. By the final act, the nonstop fighting between Superman and Zod just turns into endless buildings collapsing, and it gets exhausting rather than exciting. Another problem is the tone. The film is so dark and serious that it loses the hopeful spirit that Superman is supposed to represent. Instead of feeling inspired by the character, the movie makes everything feel heavy and grim. The pacing is also strange. The constant jumping between flashbacks and present-day scenes makes the story feel disjointed, and it’s hard to stay emotionally connected to Clark Kent because the narrative keeps interrupting itself. Overall, Man of Steel has great visual effects and a talented cast, but the overly dark tone, messy pacing, and excessive destruction make it feel like a missed opportunity for such an iconic hero.
